This page provides information on installing V-Ray for SketchUp.

Overview

This guide is to serve as a reference for the installation of V-Ray for SketchUp.

A complete installation of V-Ray for SketchUp consists of:

V-Ray Online License Server

If you are a trial user, please refer to the Trial installation, as the process differs from the one showed on this page.

Installation Steps

To start the installation, double-click the installation file.

1. You will be presented with the license agreement. Please take a moment to read it. Click I Agree to continue.

2. In this screen you can select for which SketchUp version to install V-Ray. You can choose more than one version at once.

Click the Install button to proceed with standard installation. If you need to customize your V-Ray installation, press the Advanced button. The Advanced installation lets you choose whether to install the License Server, V-Ray Swarm, and Chaos Cloud client and allows you to specify the License server machine.

Additional Components

In this step, you can opt to install the License Server, V-Ray Swarm, and Chaos Cloud client 1 . Press the Continue button to proceed with the installation.

Licensing

In this step, you can specify whether the V-Ray license server will run locally or on another machine.

If you select the option Remote, you will have to fill in the IP address of your V-Ray license server in the field Primary License Server. Please leave port 30304 unchanged. An Alternate License Server is used when the primary one does not respond.

3. The installer first checks for running applications and prompts you to stop them, if there are such. Then it automatically uninstalls all old versions.

4. Your installation is completed. On the last screen resides the usage statistics collection option. For more information on statistics data collection, visit the Chaos Group Telemetry page. Also, you can check the Open the release notes file option to open the release notes file after the installation.

Check Your License

Once the installation of the License Server is done, you are directed to the License Server localhost ( 127.0.0.1:30304 ) in order to sign in and activate it.

В этой статье рассмотрим процесс установки Vray для программы Sketchup, напомним, что VRay на сегодняшний день — это одна из самых мощных приложений по визуализации, поддерживающий Depth of Field (глубина резкости), Motion Blur (эффект «размытия» в движении), Displacement (карта смещения, с увеличением детализации трехмерных объектов). Кроме этого, V-ray имеет собственные источники освещения, систему солнце-небосвод для реалистичного освещения естественным светом, и физическую камеру с параметрами, аналогичными реальным фото- и видеокамерам.

И так приступим, скачаем нужное нам приложение, если нужно, то разархивируем его. Я скачал архивный файл с торрента “Rutracker”, в нем была программа Sketchup и Vray к нему.

Примечание. Если ставите Vray 2.0 для 64-битной системы, то он подойдет для SketchUp 2015 с этой версии начинается поддержка данного Vray, если система 32-битная, то 64-битный Vray не подойдет, обязательно смотрите совместимость.

UVW Placement

This page provides information on the V-Ray UVW Placement Texture.

Overview

The V-Ray UVW Placement texture operates as a custom mapping source that can be shared between different textures. It is equipped with randomization parameters that allow randomizing the texture placement based on different IDs, names, etc. V-Ray UVW Placement texture also has additional controls for the amount and specifics of the randomization.

Create UVW Placement

A UVW Placement texture can be created as any other texture from the Create Asset button (Create button > Textures > UVW Placement) and the Texture category icon (Right-Click on the category).

Alternatively, you can set a texture’s Placement Type to Mapping Source, and then click on the UV Placement Source icon and select UVW Placement.

Placement Parameters

Type – Controls how the texture is positioned on the geometry.

2D (UV Channel) – The texture uses the object UV coordinates.
3D (Object Space) – Places the texture based on the local object coordinates independent of the object UVs.
3D (World Space) – Places the texture based on the world coordinates independent of the object UVs
Environment – This mode is applicable if the map is connected to an Environment slot or a Dome light.

2D (UV Channel)

UV Channel/Set – Specifies the index of the mapping channel data to use. A value of 1 takes the first available channel.

Repeat U/V – Determines how many times the texture is repeated in the 0 to 1 UV square.

Offset U/V – Controls the texture offset in the U and V direction.

Rotate – Rotates the texture (in degrees).

Tile U/V – Tiles the texture in the U and V direction. If the option is disabled, the Default texture color is used outside the 0 to 1 UV square.

Mirror U/V – Mirrors the texture in the U and V direction separately. The option cuts the texture in half flipping one side vertically or horizontally. it can be used to avoid seams in-between non-tileable repeated textures.

3D (Object Space)

Repeat X/Y/Z – Determines how many times the texture is repeated along the X/Y/Z axis.

Lock U/V Repeat – Locks the X/Y/Z repeat.

Offset X/Y/Z – Controls the texture offset in the X/Y/Z direction.

Rotate X/Y/Z – Rotates the texture around the X/Y/Z axis.

3D (World Space)

Repeat X/Y/Z – Determines how many times the texture is repeated along the X/Y/Z axis.

Lock U/V Repeat – Locks the X/Y/Z repeat.

Offset X/Y/Z – Controls the texture offset in the X/Y/Z direction.

Rotate X/Y/Z – Rotates the texture around the X/Y/Z axis.

Environment

Mapping – Specifies the type and shape of the texture.

Mirror Ball
Screen

Rotate H – Rotates the environment sphere horizontally.

Flip H – Flips the environment sphere horizontally.

Rotate V – Rotates the environment sphere vertically.

Flip V – Flips the environment sphere vertically. This option is active only in Spherical Mapping.

Ground – Enables ground projection of the texture.

Position X/Y/Z – Offsets the ground projection along the X/Y/Z axis.

Radius – Specifies a projection radius. Can be used to control the scale of the projection.

Randomization Parameters

By Face ID – Consider the face IDs of the object when feeding the data (color or texture) to the material;

By Render ID – Assign random colors based on RenderIDs;

By Mesh Element – Assigns random colors based on element IDs of the object;

By Instance – Assign random colors based on InstanceID (works for Alembic instances and VRayInstancer source objects );

By Object ID – Consider the Object IDs of the object when feeding the data (color or texture) to the material;

By Node Name – Generates a color index based on the name of the node that the texture is applied to. This allows the color to remain consistent if the object is merged into another scene, or X-Ref’d etc;

Stochastic tiling – Changes the mapping based on the UV tile.

Tile Blend – Edge blending between adjacent tiles when Stochastic tiling mode is used.

Seed – When one or more of the randomization modes are used, this parameter changes the randomization pattern.

U Offset – Controls the U offset variance range.

V Offset – Controls the V offset variance range.

UV Rotation – Controls the UV rotation variance range in degrees.

U Scale – Controls the U scale variance range in percentage.

V Scale – Controls the V scale variance range in percentage.

Clipper

Overview

V-Ray Clipper is a geometric primitive that can be used to clip away parts of the scene. It is a render-time effect and does not modify the actual scene geometry in any way.

Creating Mesh Clipper

The Mesh Clipper can only be applied to group or component objects in SketchUp (sometimes referred to as closed geometry). After creating a Mesh Clipper object, a bounding box with a Mesh Clipper icon appears in the viewport around the selected group or component. The bounding box and icon represent the newly applied Clipper object properties.

The Clipper object can be copied between groups or components by placing them inside a new group or component. The object then receives all associated object properties.

By applying a material to the group or component, the Clipper object absorbs the applied material and use that applied material and UV Mapping for the clipped faces.

The Mesh Clipper can be enabled via the toggle under the Swatch Preview.

Parameters

Mode – Determines how to use the mesh when Mesh mode is enabled.

Subtract – Clips away anything inside the specified mesh; only renders objects and parts of objects outside of the specified mesh.
Intersect
– Clips away anything that is outside the specified mesh; only renders objects and parts of objects inside the specified mesh.

Use Object Material When enabled, the clipper uses the material of each clipped object to fill in the resulting holes. When disabled, the material applied to the clipper object itself is used.

Material – Specifies the material used by the clipper. This parameter is disabled when object material is used instead.

You can Copy, Cut, Clear the selected material or Paste as Instance another material into the slot.

Options

Affect lights – When enabled, the clipper affects area light sources as well.

Camera Rays Only – When enabled, the clipper affects objects as they are directly seen by the camera, but they appear unchanged to reflection/refraction/GI rays.

Clip Light Geometry– When enabled, the clipper clips light geometry (for example a mesh light).

V-Ray Frame Buffer

Overview

The New V-Ray Frame Buf fer (VFB 2) is a second-generation V-Ray virtual frame buffer.

The New VFB is much more than a render image holder window, with Light Mix capabilities for modifying the scene lighting after rendering and Layer Compositing for a higher level of post-processing adjustments.

VFB Menu

The V-Ray Frame Buffer menu holds the main frame buffer commands. Some of the options are also available in the VFB toolbar for quick access.

File

Save current channel – Saves the currently loaded channel to an image file format.

Load image – Opens an image file from disk to be previewed in the V-Ray Frame Buffer.

Render

Start interactive rendering – Starts Interactive Rendering.

Abort rendering – Stops the current rendering.

Render Starts Production Rendering.

Image

Follow mouse – Renders the closest bucket found to the mouse pointer, when using the bucket image sampler. If the progressive sampler is used, V-Ray samples the closest pixels to the mouse pointer.

Follow mouse – Drag the mouse over the VFB while rendering to change what part of the image is sampled first;
Follow mouse (locked) – Locks the bucket (or sampling) starting point.

Copy current channel to clipboard – Copies the current channel to the clipboard.

Clear image – Clears the contents of the frame buffer. This is useful when starting a new render to prevent confusion with the previous image.

View

Display color space –Specifies the color space, in which the image is displayed.

None – Does not specify a color space;
sRGB – Displays the image in sRGB color space;
OCIO – Displays the image in a color space loaded from an OCIO configuration file;
ICC – Displays the image in a color space loaded from an ICC configuration file;
Gamma 2.2 – Displays the image in Gamma 2.2 color space.

Zoom VFB – Zooms in/out the rendered image in the VFB.

Zoom 50% – Zooms out to 50%;
Zoom 100% – Zooms to 100%. Alternatively, double-click in the VFB with the left mouse button;
Zoom 150% – Zooms in to 150%.
Zoom to fit – Zooms in or out so to position the image properly within the V-Ray Frame Buffer.

Channels – Chooses which channels to display.

View red channel – Displays the red channel;
View green channel – Displays the green channel;
View blue channel – Displays the blue channel;
Switch to alpha channel – Displays the alpha channel;
Monochromatic mode –Displays the image in monochromatic mode.

Color clamping – Opens the color clamping submenu options:

Force color clamping – Forces color clamping;
View clamped colors – Displays the clamped colors.

Use pixel aspect – Enables visualization of the pixel aspect ratio.

Stereo – Enables stereoscopic preview. You can view the image in stereo in red/cyan or green/magenta.

VFB settings – Opens the VFB Settings window where you can adjust settings for Render View, Render Region, History, and Layers.

Render History

The V-Ray VFB keeps a history of previously rendered images and lists each with a number, thumbnail, and textual details in the Render history panel. Up to four images can be called from the history to be compared in the VFB (as shown below). History files are stored as .vrimg files in a user-specified folder. Render history settings can be configured in the VFB Settings window.

Set B – Sets the render as B image for A/B comparison.

Load to VFB – Loads the selected image in the VFB (same as double-clicking on the image).

Delete – Deletes the selected image from history. The image is moved to the system’s Recycle Bin and can be restored from there if needed.

Load layers – Loads the layer tree preset of the selected image.

Load V-Ray settings – Loads the V-Ray settings used for the saved render.

Compare V-Ray settings – Opens the Compare V-Ray settings dialogue, where you can compare the render setups of saved renders.

Open scene – Opens the rendered scene in the viewport. This option works as long as the initial file path of the scene has not changed after the render.

Copy scene path – Copies the full path to the scene.

Reload history – Re-reads the history image list. This may be needed if the history folder is updated outside of SketchUp (f.e. from another SketchUp session).

Manually saved .vrimg files can also be added to the History folder, but they need to be saved with all image channels in one .vrimg file to keep the complete image info.
